Wants to make your laptop boot faster

Here are some ideas to boost your laptop faster.....
  • You can replacing old laptops' spinning hard drives (HDD) with a new solid-state drive (SSD). SSDs are substantially faster than traditional HDDs. After installing an SSD, the first thing you'll notice the speed improvement when you boot up your laptop. (Note: Check your laptop vendor or in laptop forums to make sure the SSD you choose is compatible with your laptop model. You may sacrifice some storage capacity when you move to an SSD, but prices have dropped precipitously in recent years so you may be able to afford a larger SSD than you think.)

  • The longer list of applications, the longer it takes to start up. both Windows and OS X both let you choose which applications make this list. If you are unwilling to purchase or install an SSD, then you'll like this, because its free and easy. And already your lapotop has an SSD, then you can further shorten its boot time. On OS X El Capitan, open System Preferences and select Users & Groups. Click on your username in the left panel and then click the Login Items tab in the right panel. To remove a program from this list, click on it and the click the "-" button.
  • On Windows 10, search for Task Manager and open it. Click the Startup tab and you'll see a list of programs that start automatically when Windows 10 boots. Look for programs you don't need at startup, particularly if they are listed as having a high startup impact in the right column. To stop a program from automatically running when you start Windows 10, right-click it and click Disable.                                                                                                                                     -cnet-

PowerDVD 16 adds TV streaming and 4K support

It seems crazy, but for some reason it's taken PowerDVD until its sixteenth iteration to include a dedicated TV mode. Taking a leaf from other HTPC interfaces that have come before it -- including Boxee and Windows Media Center -- PowerDVD's TV Mode offers an horizontally scrolling interface designed to be used in conjunction with the PowerDVD Remote for Android or iOS, or a mouse.
But TV Mode is merely the first item in PowerDVD's bag of tricks. The software can also stream Blu-rays (and regular digital video files) to your Chrome cast, Roku or Apple TV. The "Play To" feature currently supports 4K content (it will down convert to a 1080p TV) and the company says it is working on streaming 4K Blu-ray discs. Native support for YouTube and Vimeo is on board, too.
The system currently supports DVD and Blu-ray, and a Cyber Link representative confirmed to me that the software will support 4K Blu-ray once PC hardware becomes available.

Disable Mobile Data for Specific App on iOS

Following that, whenever you will try to open an app, you will get an error. Therefore, you will have to provide Wi-Fi connection to run that app on your iOS device. Instagram 60 second videos introduced

Until now, the maximum length for video ads was 30 seconds, already longer than the 15-second videos users are allowed to post.

Instagram tells that “We recognize that advertisers have a variety of creative resources and want to bring more choice to help them reach their business goals.”

One of the first of these ads is T-Mobile’s extension of its 30-second Super Bowl commercial starring musician Drake. T-Mobile is now running a special, 60-second version with extra scenes on Instagram now.

Like its parent Facebook, Instagram is trying to ease people into the idea of ads. For years there were none. Then Instagram introduced simple photo ads with no links, then short 15-second video ads, then clickable photo ads, and then progressively increased the video ad length. Rather than shocking people by suddenly showing full-strength ads, Instagram hopes it can boil the cash out of us frogs by turning up the heat slowly.

How To Share and Collaborate With Google Docs

You've uploaded or created a word processing file or a spreadsheet with Google Docs. Now what? Here's how you can share that document with others and get started collaborating.

1.Go to Google Docs at docs.google.com and log in using your Google ID

2.Find your document in your list. By default, Google only lists the "active" documents, meaning that there have been recent changes. If you don't see your document in the list, click on the green Browse Docs & Spreadsheets tab on the upper right hand corner of the window, and then select all from the drop-down list. This will list all the files.

3.Click on the file name on the list to open the file.

4.Click on the Collaborate tab on the upper right hand corner of the window.

5.You have two choices on how you can share this file. You can invite them ascollaborators by entering their email address in the upper text box. Collaborators have access to view and change items on the document or spreadsheet. They can also invite others to view or collaborate.

6.You can also invite viewers by entering their email address in the lower text box. Viewers have access to view a file, but they cannot make any changes.

7.Enter as many email addresses as you wish. Separate each address with a comma. Unless you have reasons to do otherwise, set the "Invitations may be used by anyone" option. This will allow people to change their email address to match that of any existing Google account they may already have.

8.Click the Invite these people button. Google will confirm that you want to email the invitation. Press the OK button.

9.Google will open up a dialog box. Type in a custom email message if you wish. By default, Google will send a copy of the message to your email address. You can turn this option off by clicking on the check box next to CC me.

10.Once the person you've invited receives their email invitation and clicks on the link, they'll have access to your file. If they don't have a Google account, they'll be prompted to create one.

How AdSense Click Fraud Happens in India

A recent report on Click Fraud suggests that the maximum number of invalid clicks on Pay Per Click ads originate from India. And this is not the first time – its widely believed there there exists a large “work from home” crowd in India who want to generate “quick cash” by clicking Google AdSense ads.
During a recent trip to Google Hyderabad for BarCamp, I met someone who explained me the whole modus operandi of these secret ad clickers.
Pick any issue of Deccan Chronicle newspaper (the English Daily of Hyderabad) and open the Classifieds section – you will see dozens of ads that promise you regular Google AdSense income while working from home. (see this newspaper clipping on the right).
You basically create a website and then write a few articles to get accepted into the official Google AdSense program. Once you become an AdSense publisher, you join any of these “bogus” AdSense network and are introduced to other members who are in the same boat as you.
Now Google would quickly ban your AdSense account if you click Ads on your own website so what these networks do is ask members to click on Ads appearing on websites of other members. So it like a reciprocal behavior – you click my ads and I will click yours.

Can You Make a Decent Living Off of Google AdSense Ads

If you plan to make a living from online advertising, do not use Google AdSense because running Google ads on your website will only return pennies per click. That’s a piece of advice coming from Tom Foremski of Silicon Valley Watcher.

Foremski shares some valid concerns – AdSense publishers have to accept the pricing of the advertising fixed by AdWords and second, Google is shrinking the percentage of AdSense revenue that it shares with its publishing partners.
However, the question is that if you block AdSense from occupying any real estate on your web pages, who else do you approach for filling all those vacant spots ? Small publishers neither have the time nor can afford to hire an independent sales team.
Let’s see what choices (other than AdSense) are available to web publishers who want to make some money out of their web content:
Yahoo! Panama and Microsoft adCenter are not so popular and available only to US publishers. BlogAds, Federated Media, WPNI Blogroll and TechDispenser offer better rates but are open only to select group of websites. Non US traffic cannot be monetized with WidgetBucks or Chitika. Very few sites are successful with affiliate programs of Amazon or eBay.
Readers will abandon your blog if you become regular to PayPerPost kind of programs. And selling Text Link Ads will definitely put your Google rankings in jeopardy. Do you know of other AdSense alternatives in the International space that can guarantee returns ?
Agree, AdSense does sometime pay pennies per click but these pennies definitely add up to enable you pay the web hosting fees and other utility bills. And if you have fair number of eyeballs to your website, these AdSense pennies together can actually help you live a comfortable life.
                                                                              -labnol-

Speech Recognition

Open the Google website on your desktop computer and you’ll find a little microphone icon embedded inside the search box.
Click the icon, say something and your voice is quickly transcribed into words. Unlike earlier speech recognition products, you no longer have to train the browser to understand your speech and, for those who don’t know touch typing, speech is often a faster mode of input than the keyboard.
Sounds like magic, right? Both Google Chrome and Firefox browsers support the speech recognition.

PeakForm - Fitness app

Not another fitness app but an exercise app!

5 Biggest Business Writing Mistakes

5 Biggest Business Writing Mistakes

We use the expression “there’s no room for mistakes” when we want to underline the importance of doing something correctly. But still, as you probably know from experience, mistakes appear whether there’s room for them or not. They don’t ask whether there’s room for them, partially because they’re not very polite, but mostly because mistakes can’t speak. They happen anytime and anywhere, so you can rest assured they will appear in your business reports, memos, business emails and letters, and job applications. Some of them are not too bad. Some are catastrophic. And some are just embarrassing. So we tried to gather the biggest and most embarrassing, potentially devastating, and sometimes sneaky mistakes people make in business writing.
1. Using i.e. and e.g. Interchangeably
I.e. and e.g. might look similar. They even have somewhat similar meanings. But they are not the same, and they shouldn’t be used interchangeably. I.e. is an abbreviation of “id est,” which translates from Latin as “that is,” and e.g. is an abbreviation of “exempli gratia,” which translates as “for example.” Use i.e. to expand or explain something you’ve already introduced. Use e.g. to introduce an incomplete list of examples for something you mentioned earlier in the sentence.

2. Writing with an Improper Level of Formality
Different industries and different types of businesses are accustomed to different levels of formality in written communication. For example, if you were to write a business letter to a partner in a law firm or a big corporation, you’d be well advised to use a very formal business writing style—use a colon after greeting and follow all the other conventions of formal business letters. On the other hand, a CEO of a startup, even if it’s a very successful startup, might not mind if you start a business letter with “Dude!” Okay, that might be an exaggeration, but things like emoticons have no place in traditional business writing, even though they might be okay in industries that are more open to informality. When in doubt, err on the side of formal.

3. Overusing Exclamation Points
There are some things that you should never do with exclamation points in business writing. You shouldn’t write three of them in a row, even if you want to make sure your point really gets across. You shouldn’t write three of them in the same paragraph either, because that has to be one exclamatious (not a real word) email you’re writing if there’s such a need to exclaim. Generally, you can use actual words to express excitement, disbelief, surprise, or whatever you are tempted to use the exclamation points for. Save them for those really important occasions when you really need them, or when you want to express enthusiasm in the greeting or closing of a letter.

4. Problems with Clarity
“Problems with clarity” is an umbrella term we’ll use here for a whole bunch of mistakes people make that affect the clarity of their business writing. Mistakes such as writing too much in the passive voice, overuse of prepositional phrases, and confusing pronouns can all lead to problems with clarity. Overly complex sentences kill clarity. In business writing, it’s often best to keep it as short, concise, and informative as you possibly can. Exceptions exist, as they always do, but the rule of thumb is to never use two words when one will do, and never use complicated language when you can say it in plain English.

5. Bad Timing
You can craft a perfectly worded email, chock full of well-explained and well-presented information, and you can proofread it over and over until there are no mistakes in grammar or spelling. But if you send it too late, the information might lose its relevance, and all the work you put into it won’t make up for that. This is especially important when replying to business-related messages. With emails, the standard is to respond within twenty-four hours; for written correspondence, it’s five days. If it takes you longer than that, the person waiting for your reply can become worried, frustrated, angry, insulted, or simply uninterested in what you have to say.

Google Nexus 7 2016 to be the first device to run on Android N

The upcoming model of Google Nexus 7 2016 is one of the most highly speculated tablets. It is rumoured to be equipped with the upcoming Android software, which is Android N.
The device is expected to be released later this year. Moreover, it is slated to become the first device to run on Android N.
The tablet, which will be launched with Android N out of the box, is rumoured will be focussing on the section of users who want multi-tasking features in the device, according to BGR. With this tablet, the users will be able to enjoy executing different projects at the same time.
The upcoming model of Nexus 7 2016 is speculated to be inspired from the recently released Google Pixel C tablet. The screen resolution of the device will be 2,560 x 1,800 pixels. It will also be armed with an Nvidia Tegra X1 processor. The device may be manufactured by Huawei or LG. In a twist of tale, it is strongly rumoured that the Taiwanese tech giant Huawei is planning to release its own version of a Nexus 7 tablet as well. This launch is expected to take place during this year's Google I/O Conference, which will be held in May.
If this is true, there will be two devices in the market releasing at almost the same time and with almost the same configuration, along with the same manufacturer.
The tech experts have a reason to believe that Google Nexus 7 2016 is more likely to hold the market in comparison with Huawei's take on this device, according to Green Bot. However, the Huawei devices are known to be priced at a much lower range in comparison with the Google devices. This angle may work in their favour in capturing the market share.
The current model of Nexus 7 tablet was released back in 2013. The 16 GB version is currently available for $100 on GroupOn, which was slashed from $124. The price cuts make it evident that the successor's release is in the immediate pipeline.

Samsung is working on smart contact lenses, patent filing reveals

In an ever expanding universe of wearable, Samsung is doing its best to keep all bases covered. Today, the publication of a patent application shows the company is developing smart contact lenses. The patent application, filed in South Korea, shows a contact lens equipped with a tiny display, a camera, an antenna, and several sensors that detect movement and the most basic form of input using your eyes: blinking. The display projects images directly into the eye of the wearer. An external device, a smartphone, is needed for processing.
According to the application, the primary reason for the development of smart contact lenses is the limited image quality that can be achieved with smart glasses. Lenses can provide a more natural way to provide augmented reality than smart glasses, though we can image the privacy debate will reach entirely new heights when cameras are essentially hidden in contact lenses. So far, Google is known to be working on smart contact lenses, but Samsung’s patent was filed back in 2014, so they’ve been at it for quite a while, too. Still, such an old patent mainly shows that Samsung is working on contact lens concepts, rather than on an actual product, though we can’t help but wonder whether the Gear Blink trademark, filed in both South Korea and the US, could have anything to do with what we are seeing today.

HP unveils the world's thinnest laptop

HP has unveiled its new Spectre, the new titleholder for "world's thinnest laptop."

At four-tenths of an inch thick, and weighing a little less than two and a half pounds, it's thinner and lighter than the 13-inch MacBook Air. (It weighs slightly more than the new MacBook and Lenovo Yoga 900S).HP gave its new portable computer a copper sheen to appeal to anyone who loves gold gadgets or devices that look like jewelry.
The guts of the new Spectre are meant to attract people who care about power: The Spectre boasts an Intel Core i7 processor, 8 GB of memory, and about 10 hours of battery life. And for music lovers, HP tapped Bang & Olufsen to give its laptop cred in the audio department.HP describes the Spectre as being "more artisan than manufactured" in a promo video. "It looks as if a craftsman made just one of those," the narrator says. Spectre is meant to compete with other high end laptops -- and its $1,170 price tag is proof.
HP is in need of a catalyst for its slumping PC division. In the last three months of 2015, HP reported a 11% slump in laptop sales and a 14% slip in desktop sales. Smartphones and 2-in-1 tablet-laptop devices have put pressure on PCs. People are also holding on to their older computers rather than upgrading. HP hopes the Spectre can spark a turnaround. Pre-orders for the new Spectre are available at HP (HPQ) and Best Buy (BBY) beginning on April 25.
